New Heavy Vehicle National Laws now open for comment

July 2018 by ORIX

Yesterday, the long awaited draft of the new Master Industry Code of Practice was released by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR). The new Code will be effective from 1 October 2018 with submissions from industry open until 31 July 2018. The first step we recommend, is to familiarise yourself with the new Code which can be accessed here.

The new Code, once approved, will set out new Chain of Responsibility obligations for all organisations, and their executive officers, who are part of the heavy vehicle transport supply chain. Specifically, the new Code addresses the management of:

  • Dimensions
  • Fatigue
  • Loading
  • Mass
  • Speed
  • Vehicle standards

We understand the important role we will play in assisting you meet these new obligations. To ensure a smooth transition, we are currently aligning our systems and processes, and closing identified gaps, to ensure you are able to maintain business operations.

We are also working with Sean Minto, Director and Principal Consultant for Supply Chain Safety Excellence, to develop an industry focussed training program, that will help you better understand the new Code and its impact on your organisation. Sean was part of the team that drafted the new Code, and is well placed to provide practical answers to your questions.

Next Steps
A full training schedule, including workshops and forums facilitated by Sean, will be released shortly. For more information, or to express interest in the training, please contact us at info@orix.com.au.
